Plot summary
Bhaskar, called Risk, works as a stuntman in Tamil films, a trade in which he puts his body on the line each day. He meets Cinthya, a college student, and a few meetings leave them acquainted. Through him she comes to see the hazards the men in his line face, and her concern and affection make Bhaskar fall for her. Learning that she does not love him in return, he wants to step away. Cinthya visits him and asks him to go on being himself and to keep their friendship going. She pledges to marry him if love for him grows in her, and says they would part as friends if it never does. Bhaskar, easygoing by nature, tries every means to win her over, while Cinthya's mother Malar opposes the relationship once she learns of it.

- Before Jiiva was cast in Dishyum, the film was shot for about ten days with Ashok Kumar in the lead, unpaid, and Vijay Sethupathi played a police officer for 250 rupees; that version was scrapped and reshot with Jiiva.
- The producers first signed Pooja to play the lead role in Dishyum in January 2005, but Sandhya replaced her before the film was made.
- Jiiva had trained in Kung fu for three years and took gymnastics training to play a stuntman in Dishyum, and he performed some of the stunts himself with stunt directors on hand.
- The Dishyum song "Dailamo Dailamo" was later reused in the Kannada-language film Buddhivantha, which was released in 2008.
