Plot summary
American secret forces take Salim Ajami out of West Beirut and bring him to trial in the United States. He faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and of killing five innocent people, one of them a five-year-old child, under a new federal statute that declares the murder of American civilians abroad a felony. The proceeding is intended to show American justice at its best. Simon Resnick teaches law at a university and has not argued a case in years, though he is counted among the country's finest defense lawyers, and he takes the assignment with hesitation. Jim Delmore prosecutes, and Judge Bonner presides.
