Plot summary
In New York City, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo share April O'Neil's apartment while they search for a home of their own. Splinter wants them kept in the shadows, and Raphael argues for living in the open. Keno, a pizza delivery boy who also is a skilled martial artist, tries to stop burglars on his route and is rescued by the Turtles. April, a reporter, asks Professor Jordan Perry of Techno Global Research Industries about a possible toxic waste leak. Splinter reveals that the ooze which mutated the four of them fifteen years earlier was made by that company. Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Corey Feldman did not voice Donatello in the second film after pleading no contest to a drug possession charge in December 1990. He was replaced by Adam Carl, although he would later return as Donatello's voice in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.
- Bebop and Rocksteady, popular villains in the 1987 animated series, could not be used because Peter Laird objected, saying "their constant one-note shtick in the first animated series [was] extremely annoying and silly to the point of being stupid". As a result, Tokka and Rahzar were created.
- Paige Turco succeeded Judith Hoag as April O'Neil for this film and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. According to Hoag, she was not approached to reprise the role because the producers thought she complained too much during the first film about the strenuous shooting schedule and amount of violence.
- The Turtles' new lair was based on the real decommissioned City Hall station of the New York City Subway, built by the former Interborough Rapid Transit Company. Trains still pass through the station daily as they turn around, but they do not stop, so passengers cannot disembark.
- In July 2022 Kevin Nash revealed that Kevin Peter Hall had originally been cast as the physical actor for the Super Shredder.
- During filming of the scene where the Turtles are trapped in the net and fall to the ground, one of the stuntmen broke an ankle.
