Plot summary
A tribe of primitive humans struggles for survival in a barren, rocky wasteland. Across a nearby river the land is lush and thick with plants, but the tribe keeps to its own side of the water, held there by a law that grew out of an ancient tale. The tale warns that a god on the far bank kills with a single touch. One young man of the tribe, the son of the Symbol Maker, challenges that law. Other men of the tribe, fearful, follow him over the water to bring him back to their side of the river.
