Plot summary
Narasimha Reddy, son of Uyyalawada's chief in the state of Hyderabad, is believed blessed by God after coming to life following a still birth, and shows athletic and acrobatic skill from boyhood. As a teenager he rides past a British execution, hears his grandfather describe the plight of villagers under East India Company rule, and vows to retaliate, learning combat and philosophy under the sage Gosayi Venkanna. Twenty-five years later he gathers fallen chiefs and kings from several provinces into a resistance in Renadu. Cochrane, governor of Madras, learns how effective that resistance is and sends General Jackson to collect Renadu's taxes by force. Ten years on, at besieged Jhansi, Rani Lakshmi Bai steadies her outnumbered men by telling them Reddy's story.
