Plot summary
Dharani makes his living stealing coal in Veerlapally, a mining village where drink ruins the lives of the local women. He spends his days with his closest friends, Siddham Suryam, called Suri, and Vennela, and has loved Vennela since childhood. When he sees that Suri and Vennela love each other, he keeps his feelings to himself. Ramanamma, Vennela's mother, will not accept Suri because of his criminal habits, so Dharani wins a local cricket match that earns Suri the cashier's job at the Silk bar, promised by Chinnappa Nambi. A brawl at the bar ends with the arrests of Dharani and his friends; Rajanna, who is Shivanna's half-brother and long estranged from him, pays their bail. Suri urges Rajanna to stand for sarpanch, and he wins with the votes of women casting ballots for the first time.
