Plot summary
In 1985, Afreen, a Pakistani student in London, is ordered to pay compensation within a month for burning an Indian philanthropist's car. She refuses to apologize and goes to Karachi for money from her grandfather, the retired brigadier Abu Tariq. He has just died, and his will says she inherits his estate only if she personally delivers a twenty-year-old undelivered letter to Sita Mahalakshmi in Hyderabad, India. She travels there with her senior, Balaji.

- Sita Ramam was banned in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, a ban News18 attributed to the film hurting religious sentiments; the UAE ban was later lifted and the film released there on 11 August 2022.
- Director Hanu Raghavapudi got the idea for Sita Ramam when he bought a book holding an unopened inland letter; the 2007 letter was from a mother to her son living in a hostel, and he wondered what if its contents could change the course of events.
- Mrunal Thakur was signed to play Sita, marking her debut in Telugu cinema; Pooja Hegde was also finalised and later left the project due to date clashes.
- Raashi Khanna was initially considered for the role of Afreen in Sita Ramam before Rashmika Mandanna was finalised for the part.
- Parts of the song "Kaanunna Kalyanam" were reshot and then added to the Tamil version of Sita Ramam under the title "Kannukkule".
