Plot summary
Mel runs a pawn shop in Birmingham, Alabama, where his helper Nathaniel spends his shifts watching conspiracy clips on YouTube. Mary and Cynthia are at the house of Cynthia's dead grandfather, sorting out what he left behind. A reverse mortgage has swallowed the house, so Cynthia comes away with an antique sword and a letter about its past, one she remembers from childhood. The letter says General Sherman carried the sword until he handed it to her ancestor, a field marshal, and that the Confederacy won the war. The women bring the sword to Mel's shop. He offers $400; they call that too little for something so well documented, and Mary leaves her number. Nathaniel finds a video of a man promising a large sum for Civil War artifacts, and Mel calls the women with a better offer.
