Plot summary
Zeki Müller has little patience for his job at the Goethe-Gesamtschule: the early mornings and the exam papers wear him down. In the car of an old criminal partner he comes across a bag of diamonds and stows it inside a stuffed school mascot. Lisi Schnabelstedt gathers old toys at home for a donation drive, and the mascot is collected with them, bound for a school in Thailand. Gudrun Gerster, the school's director, wants a partnership with a Thai school that the Schiller gymnasium currently holds, so a trip to a remote village is arranged. Zeki, Lisi and class 10/B set out, and Zeki hopes the journey will lead him back to the diamonds.
