Trailer

Plot summary

The U.S. Navy develops a stealth fighter, the F/A-37 Talon, that carries one pilot and is built for speed, range and payload. Four hundred applicants are screened and three lieutenants are chosen: Ben Gannon, Kara Wade and Henry Purcell. Captain George Cummings runs the program. To advance it, Cummings has an artificial intelligence called the Extreme Deep Invader, or EDI, installed in an aircraft that flies without a crew. EDI joins the three pilots in the Philippine Sea so that it can learn combat maneuvers by watching them. The arrangement stirs argument over whether a machine can make moral decisions, set against the pilots' own struggle with ego. Dr. Keith Orbit created EDI.
