Plot summary
Fort Casey, a Terran Federation outpost on an asteroid, is built over a bug hive. The starship Alesia sends its Mobile Infantry to take the hangar and bring out survivors. Lieutenant Daugherty's Alpha Team links up with the fort's surviving soldiers, and charges are set. The troopers head for the starship John A. Warden to evacuate, but the Warden departs without them: Minister Carl Jenkins has taken the ship from Captain Carmen Ibanez and sent her to the Alesia. Jenkins orders that Major Henry "Hero" Varro be taken aboard the Alesia as a prisoner. The Alesia docks with the fort for the evacuation, and the asteroid is destroyed. On the way to Earth, General Johnny Rico orders the Alesia to hunt for the Warden, which has stopped all contact. The Fort Casey soldiers agree to go if Varro leads them.
