Plot summary
Eric Love, 19, is moved from a juvenile facility into a high security adult prison, a transfer based on his age and his record of violence. Within days he has attacked guards and other inmates. His father Neville, serving life in the same prison, holds a position under Dennis Spencer, the inmate who runs the wing, and pushes Eric to obey the rules. Oliver Baumer, a volunteer therapist, steps in to save Eric from the officers' revenge and talks him into joining his therapy group, where the men work on their violent histories. Neville objects to the friendships Eric makes there. Deputy Governor Haynes, who has no faith in the treatment, gives Eric one chance to behave.
