Plot summary
The money Angela earns as a hairdresser in Melbourne is meant for a dream of living abroad, but her mother, Mrs. Bailey, controls her finances. When her client Madeline, a model, suggests she try print modeling, Angela agrees and poses topless at an outdoor shoot for the photographer Linsey, for a perfume ad in a women's magazine. Her mother locks her out after finding out about the modeling. Angela's ex-boyfriend Daryl, who drives an ice cream truck, arrives and argues with her; he wants her back and she does not. With nowhere to go, she spends the night at the house Linsey shares with other models. Her mother then asks her to pay medical bills for her younger sister.

- Producer Ginnane originally raised money for a film called Centrefold, written by Chris Fitchett, but when director Simon Wincer only liked its modeling setting and a Mr Whippy van, Ginnane hired Everett De Roche to write a new screenplay.
- Producer Ginnane took the film to the US, sat down with an editor and cut 12 minutes out, including the scene explaining that Elmer is married to Madeline; director Simon Wincer was unhappy with the result.
- Simon Wincer and Everett De Roche re-wrote the screenplay in three weeks, and the film took eleven weeks from the first day of shooting to a release print; Sigrid Thornton was cast only two days before shooting started.
