Plot summary
Katie is a teenager in Malibu, California, growing up with her parents, her boyfriends and a privileged life. In rural China, Lin was born on the same day as Katie, into a single parent family. A facial deformity makes her keep her face hidden, and she lives in isolation. Daniel, her father, has given his life to caring for her and hopes that one day her situation will change. Katie hears about Doctor's Gift, a program that provides medical help around the world, and about Lin. She volunteers and travels to China with the program. Touched by the work she sees there, she sets out on her own to find Lin.
