Plot summary
Twenty years ago Slaughter Studios closed after an actor, Justin Kirkpatric, was accidentally killed there during a shoot. Steve, a film student who loved the horror pictures the studio turned out, recounts that history to his girlfriend Madigan, then tells her and his classmates he wants to use the abandoned lot for one last horror movie. The building is to be demolished the next morning, which leaves nine hours to shoot the script, Naughty Sex Kittens vs. the Giant Praying Mantis. Trish offers the girls from her acting class; Kevin is cast as the monster and Madigan becomes production assistant, though she would rather act and Steve refuses to give her a part. That night they break in, meet the cast and crew, and Steve warns them about the security guard's hourly rounds.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Slaughter Studios was the last film ever shot at Roger Corman's studios in Venice Beach, California, and had only a 12-day shooting schedule. The studio was being torn down during the production.
- Slaughter Studios began as a remake of Slumber Party Massacre, with John Huckert and Dan Acre hired to write the script. After visiting the soon-to-be-demolished studio, they came up with a different idea instead.
- Principal photography on Slaughter Studios took place in February 2001, but the final sequences were not filmed until July 2002, because unusually heavy rainfall in Malibu postponed completion. Director Brian Katkin shot another film during that break.
- The originally written ending of Slaughter Studios revealed the night's events were part of a film being shot at the studio, making the whole movie a film within a film. Director Brian Katkin filmed it, didn't like it, and edited it out.
- Footage from the original Slumber Party Massacre can still be seen in Slaughter Studios during a murder sequence, inserted as an in-joke for the production crew.
