Plot summary
Philip Lacan, a developmental psychologist, performs magic for children at a party at the Zurvan Institute, the psychiatric hospital outside Vancouver where he works. Angelique, a Frenchwoman who was once his patient and his wife, assists him. Grace Collier, a journalist working undercover, has been investigating malpractice claims against Philip. Her cover fails at the party and she is thrown out, which Dylan Wallace, a physician volunteering at the event, sees. He drives Angelique to the apartment she shares with her twin sister, Annabel, who keeps to a closed bedroom. Angelique says the next day is the twins' birthday. Grace spends the night parked outside Philip's building and breaks into his office to look through it.

- Producer Edward R. Pressman announced his plan to remake Sisters during a 1998 Venice Film Festival screening of New Rose Hotel, saying the post-Scream horror gold rush made a Hitchcock knock-off worth remaking.
