Plot summary
Laxmi is a widow bringing up Lalita, her college-going daughter, and says nothing about her life before. Lalita falls in love with Ravi, a fellow student. Vijay Choudhury arrives at the college as a new English professor and gets on well with the students. At a college function, Lalita sings a song, forgets the words, and Vijay picks up the music for her. He says the song was a favorite of his wife, and Lalita replies that she learned it from her mother. That night Vijay sits at home remembering his wife, and the story returns to the years when he and Laxmi were married and she sang in a hit pair with Kumar, before he drove her from the house.
