Plot summary
Hazari Prasad is a miserly man who wants a rich bride with a large dowry for his son Raja, a college student who spends freely on wild parties. Raja clashes with Madhu Mehra, an arrogant and wealthy classmate; he tricks her into believing he is blind, then mocks her, and the two play pranks on each other. Hazari's wastepaper business makes Raja a poor marriage prospect, so he pays beggars to pose as wealthy acquaintances, befriends Madhu's father, Mr. Mehra, and proposes an alliance. The two young people learn of the plan and object. At a weekend college retreat, Madhu accuses Raja of attempted rape, ruining his name; he rebukes her for the lie, and love grows between them.
