Plot summary
In December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge of World War II, Elisabeth Vincken and her younger son Fritz take refuge in the family's hunting cabin in the Ardennes forests of western Europe, near the front lines. Her husband serves as a cook in the German Army, and her eldest son was lost at Stalingrad. Three American soldiers come into the cabin on Christmas Eve, followed soon by three German soldiers. Elisabeth talks the men into putting their differences aside for the night and sharing a Christmas dinner.
