Plot summary
A community of banished criminals has made its home in a village in Transnistria, apart from the Soviet world around it. It rejects the outside world and obeys only its own law. Kolyma and Gagarin are raised inside that community by Kolyma's grandfather Kuzya, who imposes a strict education on them and teaches them that Soviet officials, bankers and the military are enemies. The rules he hands down belong to the honest criminal brotherhood, the strict code of honor that the community obeys in place of any other law. The two boys are best friends, and they take part in robberies aimed at the Soviets.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Siberian Education (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Siberian Education is based on a novel of the same name that the article calls a falsified autobiography, written by Nicolai Lilin, the pen name of Nikolai Verzhbitsky.
- Lilin's novel was never published in Russia because he allegedly banned the sale of rights there, and Kommersant journalist Elena Chernenko found many facts in the book and the author's biography unconfirmed by sources and his acquaintances.
- The ending of Siberian Education as released was not the one first cut: the film's finale was changed after a test screening with an audience in London.
- Many of the actors, especially the child actors, are Lithuanian, and the winter scenes were shot in Lithuania rather than the actual Russia, with the remaining scenes shot in parts of Italy.
