Plot summary
Marian Langdon wants a secretarial post with Lawrence Dale, the assistant district attorney, and reporter Mitch Mitchell brings her in to meet him and speaks for her. At a nightclub she tells Mitchell that she sought the job because she watched Dale win the conviction of the gangster Dixie Logan, and that Dale is in line for the ailing District Attorney John Forsythe's post. She dates Mitchell, then Dale. Gus Miller, an underworld figure, is pointed out to her at another table, and he later appears in Dale's office while she is there. Charlie Gill, the office janitor, services a hidden Dictaphone in Dale's office.
