Plot summary
Disgraced and pacing the study of his home in Saddle River, New Jersey, Richard Nixon talks into a tape recorder, a loaded revolver and a bottle of Scotch whisky beside him and closed-circuit television cameras watching. He recounts his life from his humble beginnings and his mother to his rise in politics, and names Dwight Eisenhower, Henry Kissinger and John F. Kennedy among the people he recalls. He denies that Watergate was a crime, notes that he was never charged, and says the pardon President Gerald Ford gave him forever tainted him, since to receive one a man must first be guilty. When he veers off topic, he tells Roberto, the unseen transcriber of the tapes, to cut the passage.
