Plot summary
Jenny McLean works the phones at a 911 call center, and her wages barely cover life with her two children, Elsie and Luke. The divorce still weighs on her. One of the voices that reaches her headset belongs to Jeff, a local firefighter, and their calls become playful enough that she nicknames him Cowboy. An injury on the job leaves Jeff unable to manage stairs, so he takes a room on the ground floor of Jenny's house. Living under the same roof pushes the two toward each other, though Jenny is wary of another relationship.
