Plot summary
Billy Batson is a college student who longs for the girl of his dreams, and the one obstacle in his way is a condom, or the absence of one. He tracks one down at an all-night roadhouse, and a head-on collision kills him as he hurries back to her. He comes back as a ghost haunting his school, and an unusual ghost at that: he can turn solid or unseen whenever he chooses. Billy puts that ability to work chasing the female students on campus during Hog Day, the notorious event at the college, and he is also looking for his sweetheart, hoping to rekindle her fire.

- School Spirit was one of the first films released by Roger Corman's new distribution company, Concorde Pictures, along with Barbarian Queen, Loose Screws and Wheels of Fire. Corman said he formed his own company because the owners of New World Pictures, which he had sold, refused to distribute it.
- School Spirit began as Geoffrey Bare's idea College Ghost, about a campus Casanova who returns as a ghost to help a nerd get laid. Bare pitched it unsuccessfully, but director Allan Holleb saw possibilities, and they rewrote the script before selling it to Roger Corman.
- Because of the film's low budget, its special effects were done in the style of the old Topper movies.
