Plot summary
Julius Schmitke, a German wind turbine engineer, is fifty-seven. He feels ill, and his body creaks and groans with age. He travels to the Ore Mountains, on the Czech side, to repair a C 174 turbine, one of his own old models, which will not stop squeaking. His colleague disappears, and strange things happen in the forest. Schmitke senses something he takes for the spirit of the woods.
