Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Scarecrows (1988)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director William Wesley and producer Cami Winikoff had tickets for Delta Air Lines Flight 191 on August 2, 1985, to fly from Miami to Los Angeles to edit the film, but drove to the wrong airport and missed it. The flight crashed in Dallas, killing 136 passengers.
- Ted Vernon was the only local Florida actor in the cast, and he was given his role in return for financing $150,000 of the budget. Wesley limited his lines because he was an inexperienced actor, which caused friction between the two men.
- For a film whose killers are scarecrows, Scarecrows had only $5,000 allotted in total for all of its special effects.
- The derelict farmhouse where most of the action takes place was a real house on the edge of a swamp that producer Cami Winikoff said was challenging for the production team because it was falling apart. It was rented for three months at $250 a month.
- Throughout the shoot, the cast and crew were plagued by mosquitos, and the production ran out of funds, with further financing having to be arranged to finish the film.
