Plot summary
An unfinished railroad changes hands at a high-stakes poker game. Ben Calhoun, a frontier gambler, is the man who wins it, and the prize brings debts along with the track. The workers on the line are owed their wages, and there is no money for the supplies and equipment the job needs. Calhoun knows nothing about railroads. He sets out to finish the line, and men of greater wealth, who want the road for themselves, move to take control of it.
