William Lanteau
Biography
William Lanteau was an American character actor. Born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, he was in the Army during World War II and made his first television appearance in 1954 on Goodyear Television Playhouse. He went on to appear in more than 80 television shows and in films including Sex and the Single Girl (1964), Hotel (1967), The Honeymoon Machine (1961), and From Noon Till Three (1976). He was known for playing the mail carrier Charlie in On Golden Pond (1981) and Mayor Chester Wanamaker in Newhart. His television work included The Donna Reed Show, The Andy Griffith Show, Here's Lucy, The Twilight Zone, The Waltons, Cheers, Murder, She Wrote, and Amen. He died in 1993.
