Wayne Morris

Wayne Morris was an American film and television actor who trained at the Pasadena Playhouse before making his film debut in China Clipper (1936). Born in Los Angeles County, California, he attended Los Angeles City College, where he played varsity football. His career flourished after he took the title role in Kid Galahad (1937), a prizefighting story with Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart, and he also appeared in The Return of Doctor X (1939). He left films during World War II to fly Navy fighters and became a decorated ace, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross four times along with two Air Medals. Afterward he returned to acting, much of it in low-budget westerns, and played Lieutenant Roget in Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory (1957). He made his Broadway debut in 1957 in William Saroyan's The Cave Dwellers and also worked in television.
