Tetsu Komai
Biography
Tetsu Komai was a Japanese-born American actor whose Hollywood career was made up of small supporting parts. Born in Kumamoto, on the island of Kyushu, he made his way to the United States in 1907 and settled in Seattle for a time. From the 1920s until the mid-1960s he appeared in more than 50 films, nearly always in minor roles, and he played the villain in many of them. In his earliest movies he was usually asked to play Chinese characters, and such parts were often labeled with derogatory terms at the time. He was also known as Tetsuo Komai. He died on August 10, 1970, in Gardena, California, at the age of 76.
