Suhasini Mulay
Biography
Suhasini Mulay is an Indian actress who was drawn to films through her mother, the documentary filmmaker and film historian Vijaya Mulay. Born in Patna, she was chosen as a Pears Soap model in 1965, and that advertisement led Mrinal Sen to cast her in Bhuvan Shome (1969). She set acting aside to study agricultural technology and mass communication at McGill University in Montreal. Returning to India in 1975, she assisted Satyajit Ray on Jana Aranya and worked as an assistant director for Mrinal Sen on Mrigaya. She produced more than 60 documentaries, four of which won national awards. She returned to mainstream Bollywood in Gulzar's Hu Tu Tu, winning a national award for best supporting actress, and has often played mother roles since. She worked on the television serial Jaane Kya Baat Hui, and her later film PEEDA, directed by Hemant Verma, received the best feature film award at the FOG film festival USA.
