Richard Fraser

Biography

The Scottish performer Richard Fraser worked across film, television and the stage. He was born in Edinburgh and attended Cambridge University before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After gaining experience in London theater, he moved to the United States. Because another actor was already using the name Richard Mackie, he adopted the professional name Richard Fraser, signed with 20th Century Fox, and made numerous films for the studio. His screen career reached its peak when he played James Vane, Sibyl Vane's vengeful brother, in The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945). Fraser stopped acting in 1949. In 1961 he returned to Britain, and he later worked in export sales for the BBC.
