Reed Howes
Biography
Reed Howes was an American model who turned to acting and appeared in silent films and later sound pictures. He grew up in Washington, D.C., then Ogden, Utah, and began his career in the early 1920s modeling shirts and detachable collars for Cluett Peabody and Company, becoming one of the men known as Arrow Collar Men. He entered Hollywood in 1923, co-starring with or supporting well-known actresses of the day in racing car romance pictures, most of them produced by Harry Joe Brown and released through Rayart. He worked for FBO, Warner Brothers, Fox, Paramount and Universal, and made his sound debut in Warner's The Singing Fool with Al Jolson. In talking pictures he shifted to heavies, beginning with crime films and later Westerns, roles he continued through the 1940s and 1950s. He died in 1964.
