Peggie Castle
Biography
Peggie Castle was an American actress known for other-woman roles in B-movies. Born in Appalachia, Virginia, she started in radio on the soap opera Today's Children, and a 1947 Lux Radio Theatre performance led 20th Century Fox to arrange a screen test. She signed a seven-year contract with Universal-International and made her film debut in When a Girl's Beautiful in 1947. Her signature part was the femme fatale in the 1953 adaptation of Mickey Spillane's I, The Jury. She had a role in The Prince Who Was a Thief in 1951 and appeared in 99 River Street in 1953; in 1957 she acted in Beginning of the End. On television she appeared on Cheyenne and Perry Mason. Her first continuing series, Lawman, ran from 1959 to 1962, with Castle as saloon owner Lily Merrill. She got a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1960, last appeared onscreen in a 1966 episode of The Virginian, and died in 1973.
