Paul Hipp
Biography
Paul Hipp, an American actor who also sings and writes songs, grew up in Warminster, Pennsylvania, and studied acting in New York. Abel Ferrara saw one of his shows and cast him in China Girl (1987), beginning a long collaboration that made Hipp a regular in the director's group of actors. Ferrara gave him the part of Jesus Christ in Bad Lieutenant (1992), for which Hipp also performed the title song. Later screen roles include Waking the Dead (2000), The Last Godfather (2010), 4:44 Last Day on Earth (2011) and Welcome to New York (2014). His stage breakthrough came as Buddy Holly in the West End musical Buddy, which earned him an Olivier nomination; he played the role again on Broadway, was nominated for a Tony and won a Theater World Award. He also directed Death of a Dog and appeared on television as Reverend Tim Tom on The Middle.

Producers of the West End musical Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story spotted Hipp while he was on stage with King at London's Royal Albert Hall. They asked him to try out for Buddy Holly, and he won the role.

Hipp studied acting in New York with coach Mira Rostova and at HB Studio with William Hickey, after moving there following high school.
