Elizabeth Kemp

Elizabeth Kemp was an American actress, theater director and acting coach whose screen career began in 1973 as Betsy on the television series Love of Life. Born in Key West, Florida, in 1951, she trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and studied under Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio. She was among the first performers in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and after Elia Kazan brought Tennessee Williams to see her, Williams cast her as Baby Doll in the world premiere of his play Tiger Tail. Her feature debut came in 1980 in the horror film He Knows You're Alone. She later directed stage productions including The Glass Menagerie and the premiere of Free Gift Inside, by Edward Allan Baker. She also taught at the Strasberg Institute and served on the faculty and later as chair of the acting program at Pace University's Actors Studio Drama School. Her work on L.A. Law earned a GLAAD Award.
