Patrick Cargill
Biography
Patrick Cargill was an English actor whose stage and screen career ranged from West End farce to television comedy. Born in London, he acted with the Bexhill Amateur Theatrical Society before joining Anthony Hawtrey's company after World War II. He co-wrote the play Ring for Catty, which later became the basis for Carry On Nurse, and appeared in West End productions including Boeing Boeing and High Spirits. On television he played Sergeant Cuff in The Moonstone, took roles in The Prisoner, and starred as Patrick Glover in the sitcom Father, Dear Father, which ran from 1968 to 1973. He also led the farce series Ooh La La! and directed Not Now Darling in 1968. His films included Carry On Jack (1964), Help! (1965), A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), and The Magic Christian (1969). He died in 1996.
