Patricia Morison
Biography
Patricia Morison was an American stage, film, and television actress and mezzo-soprano. Born in Manhattan in 1915, she trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse and with Martha Graham. After appearing in the musical The Two Bouquets, she signed with Paramount and made her film debut in Persons in Hiding in 1939. Often cast as a femme fatale or an unsympathetic other woman, she had notable film roles in The Fallen Sparrow (1943), The Song of Bernadette (1943), Dressed to Kill (1946), Song of the Thin Man (1947), and Tarzan and the Huntress (1947). Her greatest success came on Broadway, where she created the lead role in Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate and later played Anna Leonowens in The King and I. On television she recreated Kiss Me, Kate opposite Alfred Drake in a Hallmark Hall of Fame production and performed with Yul Brynner on the Tony Awards.

Early training
After she finished high school in New York, Morison took classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse and studied at the Arts Students League. She also learned dance under Martha Graham.

Morison created the role of Lilli Vanessi in Kiss Me, Kate, which ran on Broadway for 1,077 performances from December 30, 1948, until July 28, 1951.
