Noel Fielding
Biography
Noel Fielding is an English comedian, actor, writer and artist whose dark, surreal style came out of the comedy troupe The Mighty Boosh, which he formed with Julian Barratt after the two met on the stand-up circuit. He began performing stand-up after graduating from art school in 1995, and the pair took shows including Arctic Boosh to the Edinburgh Fringe before The Mighty Boosh became a BBC radio series and then a BBC Three television show that ran for three series from 2004 to 2007, building a cult following and winning awards. He played Richmond in the Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd, wrote and starred in Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy, and was a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He has co-presented The Great British Bake Off since 2017, played Dick Turpin in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin in 2024, and works as a painter and musician.

Big break
Noel Fielding first met Mighty Boosh partner Julian Barratt after approaching him at a solo stand-up gig at the Hellfire comedy club, and the pair hit it off straight away.
A first
Fielding stood in as a Never Mind the Buzzcocks team captain for three episodes in 2007 at Bill Bailey's request, and set the show's record for the highest team score ever.
Getting ready for a role
Fielding's solo 2002 Edinburgh show Voodoo Hedgehog, which earned a Perrier award nomination, introduced the characters The Moon and The Jelly Fox that later turned up in the Mighty Boosh TV series.
Behind the camera
Fielding said he painted every animation for the TV show's first three weeks, but the lost sleep led Ivana Zorn to take over most of the painting while he designed the main characters.

Fielding and Barratt wrote two film scripts that were never produced. One, which Fielding described as a "Rocky Horror Picture Show type thing", had Barratt as a man who wakes up believing he is the last person alive. The other was an Arctic adventure.
