Biography

Matthew Perry, born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, was an actor who worked mostly in comedy. He started as a child actor in 240-Robert in 1979 and made his film debut in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988). His breakthrough came as Chandler Bing on Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004 and brought him an Emmy nomination in 2002. He starred in films including Fools Rush In (1997), Three to Tango (1999) and 17 Again (2009), along with The Whole Nine Yards (2000), its sequel The Whole Ten Yards (2004) and Serving Sara (2002). He also earned Emmy nominations for The West Wing and for The Ron Clark Story (2006). He co-created and led Mr. Sunshine, headlined Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Go On, played Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple from 2015 to 2017, voiced Benny in Fallout: New Vegas, appeared in Friends: The Reunion (2021), and died in 2023.

Big break
Perry was committed to LAX 2194, a sitcom pilot about baggage handlers at Los Angeles Airport 200 years in the future, which made him unavailable for Six of One, later called Friends. After that pilot fell through, he auditioned and was cast as Chandler Bing.
