Plot summary
In 1989, Mike O'Donnell is the star of Hayden High's basketball team. Minutes before the championship game, his girlfriend Scarlet tells him she is pregnant, and he leaves the court to chase after her, giving up his college hopes. Years later Mike is in his thirties, passed over for a promotion, then fired, and Scarlet has begun divorce proceedings. He moves in with his oldest friend, the wealthy Ned Gold, while his teenage children, Maggie and Alex, keep their distance. At his old school, Mike tells a janitor he wishes for a do-over. That night, on a bridge in the rain, he falls into the water and comes back up as his 17-year-old self. Ned accepts his story, and Mike enrolls at Hayden posing as Mark Gold, Ned's son, hoping for a basketball scholarship.
