Mary Philips
Biography
Mary Philips was an American actress whose career began on the Broadway stage. Born in New London, Connecticut, in 1901, she attended a convent school in New Haven and made her Broadway debut as a chorus girl. She went on to appear in many New York productions, including Anything Goes (1934), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1936), and Chicken Every Sunday (1944), and worked with figures such as George M. Cohan. She appeared in the 1924 play Nerves. Her screen work included the role of Helen Ferguson in A Farewell to Arms (1932). She also had featured roles in Leave Her to Heaven (1945), Dear Ruth (1947), and A Woman's Secret (1949). Philips died in 1975.
