Plot summary
The Newton family keeps a St. Bernard named Beethoven while relatives are away, but the dog's bad behavior frustrates Richard and Beth. Sara and Brennan take Beethoven to obedience training, where he wrecks the course and injures the sergeant. Across town, the wealthy Sedgewicks own Michelangelo, a St. Bernard who looks just like Beethoven and behaves perfectly. During an outing, both dogs end up loose on a merry-go-round, and the children take Michelangelo home thinking he is Beethoven. The real Beethoven is collected by the Sedgewicks' butler and brought to their mansion, where he acts nothing like their pampered dog. Sara notices that the dog she thinks is Beethoven now wipes his feet and folds napkins, while the Sedgewicks cannot understand why their dog has started causing trouble.
