Marjorie Eaton

Marjorie Eaton was an American character actress who also worked as a painter and photographer. Born in Oakland, California, she was raised in Palo Alto, and studied art in Boston, Florence, and Paris. She spent years in artists' colonies in Taos and Mexico before finding it impossible to earn a living as a woman artist and turning to acting. Trained in the Stanislavsky method, she appeared on Broadway in plays such as Bell, Book and Candle (1950) and In the Summer House (1953). Her uncredited film debut came in Anna and the King of Siam (1946). Later roles included the starring role of Hetty March in Monstrosity (1963), Madame Romanovitch in Night Tide (1961), Miss Persimmon in Mary Poppins (1964), and she played Sister Ursula in The Trouble with Angels (1966). In 1979 she filmed a scene as Emperor Palpatine for The Empire Strikes Back, though she went uncredited.
