Marcelle Corday
Biography
Marcelle Corday was a Belgian-born American actress who played character parts in both silent and sound films. Born in Brussels in 1890, she studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and worked as a concert pianist before turning to acting. In Paris she appeared with the Vieux Colombier company, which Jacques Copeau led, and she traveled with that troupe to New York in 1917, choosing to remain in the United States after its engagements ended. She performed in Dutch, French, German, and Italian as well as English, and during the 1920 to 1921 season she acted alongside Ethel Barrymore in Declassee. Corday settled in California in 1923 and began her screen career; her American film work officially started in 1925, though she was said to have had a small uncredited part in Fred Niblo's 1924 film The Red Lily. She retired from films in December 1948 and later worked with the Honolulu Community Theater. She died in 1971.
