Lou Jacobi
Biography
Lou Jacobi, born in Toronto, was a Canadian character actor and comic performer. He began acting as a boy, and in 1924 he first appeared on a Toronto stage in the Yiddish play The Rabbi and the Priest. He later worked as a drama director, a summer resort social director and a stand-up comic before relocating to Britain, where he performed on the London stage in Guys and Dolls and Pal Joey. He gained prominence as Hans van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank, a role he played on Broadway in 1955 and repeated in the 1959 film. Other Broadway credits included Come Blow Your Horn and Don't Drink the Water. His films included Irma la Douce (1963), Little Murders (1971), Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976), My Favorite Year (1982), Amazon Women on the Moon (1987) and Avalon (1990). His final film role was I.Q. (1994). In 1999 he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.

Big break
Jacobi became well known for playing Mr. Van Daan in the 1955 Broadway production of The Diary of Anne Frank, a part he took up again in the 1959 film version.
