Krist Novoselic
Biography
Krist Novoselic is an American musician who co-founded Nirvana and played bass on all of the band's albums. He was born in Compton, California, and grew up partly in Aberdeen, Washington, where he met Kurt Cobain; the two started the group in 1987. Nirvana became linked with the Seattle grunge scene and released Bleach in 1989, Nevermind in 1991, and In Utero in 1993. Novoselic played acoustic bass, accordion, and acoustic rhythm guitar on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged taping, released as Nirvana: Unplugged In New York (1993), which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance. After Nirvana ended in 1994, he formed Sweet 75 and Eyes Adrift, played in Flipper, and founded Giants in the Trees. He also contributed bass and accordion to Foo Fighters' Wasting Light. In 2014 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Nirvana, honoring Novoselic, and in 2023 the band received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
