Justine Waddell
Biography
Justine Waddell is a South African-British actress and producer who has worked across stage and screen. Born in Johannesburg, she moved to Scotland at eleven and later to London, and studied Social and Political Science at Cambridge. She played Sasha in the Almeida Theatre's Ivanov (1997) and Nina in the Royal Shakespeare Company's The Seagull (2000), earning an Ian Charleson award nomination, and won a Broadcasting Press Guild Best Actress award for Wives and Daughters. Her screen work includes Tess in Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1998), Julia Bertram in Mansfield Park (1999) and Estella in Great Expectations, and a Prism Award for playing Natalie Wood in The Mystery of Natalie Wood (2004). She appeared in Dracula 2000, Chaos (2005) and The Fall (2006). In the early 2020s she moved into writing and producing, notably Force of Nature Natalia (2019) and Janine Jansen: Falling for Stradivari, and she founded the streaming platform Klassiki.

Waddell produced the documentary Janine Jansen: Falling for Stradivari, which follows Janine Jansen and Antonio Pappano recording an album on 12 rare Stradivari violins. The film took the Czech Television Prize at the 2021 Golden Prague Awards.

Waddell studied Social and Political Science at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Her course let her take breaks from studying so she could work on her acting career.
