Biography
Johnny Vegas, the stage name of Michael Joseph Pennington, is an English comedian, actor, artist and writer from St Helens. He trained in art and ceramics at Middlesex University before joining the comedy group Cluub Zarathustra in the mid 1990s, and his first television appearance came in 1996, competing under his real name on Win, Lose or Draw. He became a regular on Shooting Stars. On television he played Moz in the BBC Three comedy Ideal, Geoff Maltby in the ITV sitcom Benidorm and Eric Agnew in Still Open All Hours, and he voiced the lead in The Rubbish World of Dave Spud. His films include Blackball (2003), the voice of Uncle Stewart in Terkel in Trouble (2004), Asbo in Early Man (2018) and Eaten by Lions (2018). He co-wrote the radio sitcom Night Class, which the Sony Radio Academy Awards named runner-up in its comedy category, and his ceramics were acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Behind the camera
In 2002, Vegas co-wrote the BBC Radio 4 sitcom Night Class with Tony Burgess and Tony Pitts. He played a former Butlin's redcoat who taught evening pottery classes, and the show was a runner-up for a Sony Radio Academy Award.

Before comedy, Vegas earned a BA in Art and Ceramics from Middlesex University and worked odd jobs including an Argos warehouse, door-to-door boiler insurance, packing Cif bottles and bar work.

Vegas's ceramic work drew praise from Ceramic Review, led to a role in Pot Shots with Roger Law, got his work into the Victoria and Albert Museum collection and won him an Old Spice aftershave bottle commission.
