John Hargreaves

Biography

John Hargreaves was an Australian actor who built his career mostly in film after graduating from NIDA in 1970. Born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, he taught in Mendooran and moved to Sydney during the 1960s. He received three Australian Film Institute Awards, with six nominations. Australian audiences remembered him for playing the title part in the drama Young Ramsay in the 1970s, and he also worked in stage productions. His screen credits included Malcolm (1986), The Removalists (1975), The Odd Angry Shot (1979) and Don's Party (1976). In Emerald City (1988) his character was the romantic interest of the one played by Nicole Kidman. In 1994, he was the first actor to be given the Byron Kennedy Award. He died in 1996.
